2nd Annual Retreat of the Erlangen School of Molecular Communication

September 28/29, 2010, Kloster Banz

One year passed since our first retreat. In the meantime the first batch of students pushed on their projects while new students started their PhD within the SFB796. It was time for a review. The historic Kloster Banz located on a hill overlooking the Main valley served as venue. Within two days the students presented an impressive abundance of data or their new projects. Due to our different scientific backgrounds ranging form plants, viruses and bacteria to peptide synthesis, bioinformatics and imaging communication was and is quite a challenge. However, this diversity not only offers the opportunity to see beyond one's one nose but also to approach a research goal from different directions. So it was a particular pleasure to hear about the many joint projects. The intense group networking also became apparent at lunch and dinner as tables mixed up. Moreover, there was time for mentoring, and at night recreation could be found by having a swim in the pool before rounding off the day with a glass of whine or a Maß of beer in the Bierstübl. All together, it was a successful meeting, not least thanks to the great organization by Susanne.
