Scientific writing headed by Deborah Bennet

March/April 2011

In her workshop Deborah gave us a very good overview about scientific writing. The course was mainly focused on analyzing publications but gave also useful tips how to communicate with the editor. In the first part we concentrated on dissecting the structure, vocabulary, tenses and common mistakes of different papers concerning our field of research. Articles of different journals were used to point out that each journal has its unique style and that the instructions for authors, given by journals, has to be considered. In the second part we got practical tips for dealing with the editor’s correspondence via E-Mail and discussed –if necessary- how to defend ones data in a forceful but polite way. Overall this seminar had a very friendly atmosphere, helpful because close to our field of research and we benefited a lot.
